“There’s nothing to do in Fresno” is a common complaint voiced by many young people living in Fresno. Despite research illustrating that young people are more likely to get into trouble between the hours of 2pm and 6pm on school days, there are a lack of weekly after school activities that truly engage young people in a fun, safe, and meaningful way. In an effort to meet the challenge that many Fresno youth face, Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) in partnership with will Sanctuary Youth Services hosted the first in a series of community picnic events on Friday August 21 at the Fresno YLI office. The picnics provide a fun and safe environment for young people to socialize, play games, and eat some delicious BBQ. The first picnic was a success and earned a spot on the local evening news and a morning show interview on the local Univision Spanish channel.
