On Thursday, March 18th YLI Fresno hosted the event, Community According to Youth. The event included the premier of the documentary: “WASTED: The Truth of Underage Drinking in Fresno County.” Provocative and informative, the film explores the realities of youth access to alcohol in Fresno County. The documentary features interviews with local community leaders such as Sheriff Margaret Mims and Judge David Gottlieb as well as interviews with youth experts who candidly discuss the topic of underage drinking. In addition, the event featured dynamic presentations from youth leaders representing organizations such as YLI, Californians for Justice, The Center for Multicultural Cooperation, and The KNOW Youth Media.
Over 120 people including elected officials, community partners, stakeholders, and local decision makers attended the event. After the viewing of the film, attendees were asked by local youth to commit to ending underage drinking in Fresno County by joining the committed campaign.
