On Wednesday April 21, YLI Fresno youth attended Latina Action day in Sacramento. Eleven YLI young people marched along side 500 women to the capitol to address the many issues impacting Latinas in California including access to education and access to healthy food in schools and low-income communities. The youth met Governor Schwarzenegger, Senator Gloria Romero, and California Assembly members Juan Arambula and Mary Salas. According to Lupita DeLoa of West SALUD youth leadership council the highlight was speaking with the state legislators. “…That we could personally talk to them and they would listen made us feel like we can really make a difference.” Lucia DeLoa of West SALUD added, “…speaking to elected officials really empowered us to keep working hard to improve our communities!”
