Health Snack Shack: Youth Action Research

Youth at Edison High and Roosevelt High are working to bring healthy snack choices to their school's sporting events. With support from Kaiser Permanente, YLI launched a Healthy Snack Shack campaign which aims to introduce at least two healthy snack options to sporting event concessions and to promote the new healthy options school-wide.

On November 5th,
the youth teams conducted observations at an Edison football game. At the concessions stands they observed an absence of healthy food options but noted many unhealthy snack options such as nachos, candy, and soda.

Youth surveyed 80 students attending the football game. Based on the surveys collected, the youth team discovered that most of students surveyed wanted healthier snack options at school snack stands. Fruit cups and fresh fruit were the most popular healthy choices requested by students.
