Youth Engagement Team (YET)
We are proud to be a part of the Building Healthy Communities effort in Central/Southwest/Southeast Fresno. The BHC work has given us a new perspective on health as well as a new level of activism for our community. As part of the Youth Engagement Team (YET), we were given the responsibility of planning a community celebration once our initial planning effort was complete. It was truly a youth team effort. Working within a group can be challenging, but for YET it was "easy peasy lemon squeezy" because there wasn't the pressure that makes one feel rushed and uneasy.
The celebration was a big success and really portrayed the message that we are taking charge to better our community. Our involvement with BHC finds us constantly learning different things, but in a way where we are having fun, and more importantly retaining what we have learned. We are proud of our BHC celebration and take pride in saying that today our hard work, elbow grease, and painting has been respected by the community and has sent a message that the youth care and are committed to the future of our community. This ten year BHC initiative will take some time, but with everyone’s help we are sure to build a healthy community in Central/Southwest/Southeast Fresno.
