Youth begin Latino Market Makeover

On Saturday, May 8 the CCROPP youth leadership council along with the Roosevelt youth leadership council began the first steps of a healthy store makeover at Latino Market. The youth separated alcoholic beverages from the non-alcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages were separated from food items. Healthy beverages were organized and grouped together and separated from sodas. Also, the young people separated food items, baking and cooking products, and canned goods from cookies, candies, and dessert cakes.

Healthy food items such as milk, eggs, and breads were moved to the front of the store and healthy snacks such as nuts a dried fruits were placed in the front of the store and near the cash register.

On Friday, May 14 the youth will complete the makeover by taking down alcohol advertising and replacing it with healthy advertising, pricing and stocking local produce, and helping a local muralist to paint a mural on the side of Latino Market celebrating the makeover. See flier below for more details.
